On Thursday 5 February 2015, the 5th version of the prestigious Meilleur Ouvrier de France competition (Sommelier category) took place at the Paul Bocuse Institute – Ecully (near to Lyon).
This year, Romain Iltis, Pascal Paulze, Philippe Troussard and Denis Verneau were crowned the winners from amongst the twelve finalists.
In the opinion of its president “the 2015 final of the MOF in Wine Waiting competition is probably one of the best and most prestigious that he has ever known”. It has to be said that the standard of the 12 finalists was particularly high, almost all came from Michelin-starred establishments.
The prestigious judging panel of the 2015 MOF competition, made up of 21 sommeliers including Michel Hermet, president of UDSF (Union of French Wine Waiting), the top sommeliers in the world, Olivier Poussier and Serge Dubs, many MOF and MSF (France’s top sommelier) winners from previous years, including Fabrice Sommier, Laurent Derhé, Benjamin Roffet, Eric Duret, Antoine Pétrus, Manuel Peyrondet, David Biraud and chefs Alain Dutournier, René Berges and Michel Trama, awarded the MOF title to 4 candidates who won over the judges with their experience, knowledge, expertise in service and inter-personal skills.
After an intense day spent testing their knowledge and service skills, Philippe Faure-Brac, president of the judging panel, alongside Christian Forestier, president of COET (Committee Organising Exhibitions of Work), Duval-Leroy Champagne House, long-standing partner, as well as the EuroCave, Nespresso, Nestlé Waters and Chef & Sommelier companies, named the 4 winners:
